Swim Day 2

After much hemming & hawing and an upset stomach this morning, I made it to the pool. After discovering that there is a NYSC 4 minutes from my boyfriends house I made it my mission to go today especially since he is working on the deck and, well...I am not.

So it took me a while, but I made it. And it wasn't any easier than yesterday except maybe I swam more laps then treading water. But I did my half hour and then booked it.

There was a girl in the pool that was definitely not a swimmer physique or technique and I kind of wanted to talk to her and make a swim buddy. But I don't know how often I'll make it to this locale so I didn't. Maybe if I see her again though. The lifeguards were very friendly and I avoided the kid party which was taking a break from the pool so maybe I will make it a point to go back there. :-)

Just keep swimming

Ha

Today I went to the gym. I cannot remember the last time I went to NYSC. I was going to planet fitness back in the winter but that ended abruptly also.

But I went for a different approach this time around. I swam. I am not a strong swimmer by any account, but after going to the pool last weekend and realizing how out of shape I am (not even counting the fact that I was wearing a swimsuit...a bikini none the less)... (That's a different blog post. )

I looked up water aerobics classes at the NYSC in the area since I have this freaking membership that I'm paying for. Monday at 8:30 was out of the question since I had just experienced my dads 70th birthday extravaganza and needed to chill out and sleep in. The next class available was Friday at 12:15. I out it in my calendar and made it my mission to get to this class.

Fast forward to today. I didn't exactly miss the class but I left late and didn't want the feeling of walking in late to a class I had never taken.

After some deliberation I decided to go to a different club and just use the pool. Made it and swam for 1/2 hour which for my body was plenty.

The evidence

On my way out I stopped to ask at the front desk about the swim class and how it was structured and if there would be more classes offered this summer.

They brought over the fitness coordinator Jason. The very hot fitness instructor with amazing eyes. We ended up talking and planning out a training session for next week.

I've been though training sessions before, but this guy had a whole different approach to it. Delving more into the psychology of developing new habits and how to make them congruent with an individual and the environment made such a dramatic impact on me. Especially following a series of changes I have been trying to make in my life.

So I already have homework for my first appointment on Tuesday:
To sign up for MyFitnessPal (which I apparently already have done) and download the app. After friending him, he will have access to my logs of what I eat and my activity. Talk about hands-on.

So my plan for this go round is to incorporate swimming as my main activity and supplement it was some other training based on what he feels is best. What better time than summer to do pool workouts right.

Especially if I have a smokin hot personal trainer to guide me. :-)

Picking myself up for the Fall

It's September. The sun is shining. The air is cool and crisp. And I have been inside on the couch all week. All summer really.

In April I ran another half marathon in Washington DC. I have run maybe three times since then.

I signed up and started for a V barre class at my gym but stopped going after the third week due to my crazy theater schedule… And laziness.

It's a sad state of affairs.

Today I went to Weight Watchers for the first time in months. I decided to purchase and sign up for their ActiveLink program. This involves a small activity monitor which tracks your movement, your steps & your energy all day every day. You then upload it to your computer and it works hand-in-hand with the weight watchers points system.
Ta Da!

Starting tomorrow I will be in the assessment phase which tracks my baseline activity for the week. From then on I will be tracking my daily activity and once I reach my baseline activity for the day, I can earn points activity points for anything I do beyond that. It sets up goals for me to increase my activity over the next 12 weeks. All in all it seems like a great way to be accountable and motivated to be more active in my everyday life. And hopefully the right kick in the butt to get restarted on my journey.

Until next time

Day 6

Apparently posting on the weekend is a little difficult in my world...but I'll still do my best.

Went for a run on Saturday with my teammates & one of my friends. It was sunny and brisk, but we warmed up quickly for our 3 mile run. I was still pretty stiff but it felt good to get the run in. We started out nice & slow, but by the time we got to the end, we had sped up considerably.

Today I made it to the gym just in time for my strength training class. I got in my workout & then hit the treadmill for a brisk 15 minute walk. It definitely feels good to be active again

Day 2

Attempted to do either a run or a workout...what got done was half of The Biggest Loser workout DVD...the low impact beginner version.
I'll be working a little at our Bowl-a-thon so I'll be on my feet, but I definitely should fit in a walk tonight.

31 days of Fitness

Along with my December challenge, I will be logging my 31 days of fitness here.

Again, even if it's just a walk around the block or an extra set of stairs because I forgot my keys, I want to blog every day & log what I've done each day.

Day One: Nada so far...planned afternoon walk.
